Things we’ve learned include camera shots, color theory, geometry of a scene and Pudovkin, and Kurosawa. Also, key elements I for my project various camera shots and geometry of a scene in my video. However, with color theory I didn’t really use colors to symbolize certain things and just had everything look as it would naturally. Furthermore, with geometry of a scene I had the two subjects and a point of interest being an object they’re holding and the each of the subjects are doing something making up five points of interest. In addition camera shots I used include two shot, medium shot, wide shot, and over the shoulder shot. Also, with editing I used shot reverse shot for the dialogue scene and the wide shot was used to place the title card of true video. With medium/two shot I place the two subjects making the audience notified that those where the two main characters, or at the very least are important to the plot. To elaborate, in class we learned of movement of the camera and in my project the movement used is movement of the individuals with one of the subjects appearing to be setting up his lunch and the other completing a school activity. Also, the editing technique I used the most was contrast with the two subjects and didn’t really find any other way to utilize the other 4 editing techniques being parallelism, symbolism, simultaneity, and leitmotif. To elaborate, parallelism wasn’t present due to the fact that in the narrative there is a lack understanding between the two subjects. Also, as stated in previous blog posts the goal of this project was not to comment on current cultural issues in society so there is nothing symbolized with the use of the camera. Also, with this project only being one minute and thirty seconds there was no repeated elements present with leitmotif. In conclusion, with my project I used up multiple key things we learned with things most present being contrast, geometry of the scene, wide shot, medium shot, two shot, shot reverse shot and movement of the scene. However, this I used to a lesser to no extent was parallelism, simultaneity, symbolism, and leitmotif.
The hardest part of filming my project was delivering my lines well and trying to remember my lines resulting in lines of dialogue sounding unenthusiastic. In addition, some the people i worked with also forgot some of their lines and we would have to start from the beginning of the scene. Also, when my shots were finalized it was easier because all I needed to do from that point on is editing in the title, scene transitions, sound, and differently shot angles of the same scene. Also, what I found the most enjoyable about making my project was utilizing the various shots which include a wide shot, two shot, over the shoulder shot, shot reverse shot, and medium shot. With the use of these shots it prevents the setting within the scene from feeling static and flat. Furthermore, the with camera shots it makes clear who the subject/subjects are in the scene.
No, my project does not offer a new perspective on a cultural issue. To elaborate, cultural issues include bullying, prejudice, or censorship. Also, with the script I have for my video project they plot revolves around two subjects with comedic exchanges between each other with zero regard of outside issues. Furthermore, my project does not reinforce cultural issues or social conventions because it doesn’t take a stance. In addition, I haven’t had the intention to make this a personal project because the main goal of the my project is to entertain the audience through comedy not tell a deep story anyone can relate to, convey ideas not before explored, or create something that I can relate to. Furthermore, I don’t have the resources or time present to tell a complex story that comments on cultural issues with the project only going to be a minute and 30 seconds. Also, social conventions in the project are just following arbitrary rules like two subjects greeting each other. If I were to make this a personal project I would have difficulties trying to connect with the audience.
The CDR that I have chosen is a director’s commentary. Within the commentary there would be voiceover over footage and a slideshow of my camera shots of my project. Also, there are four questions that are to be addressed in the commentary.
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? It neither challenges conventions or social issues or reinforces those issues by not trying to touch on the subject. 2. How does your product engage with the audience and how would it be distributed a a real media text? It engages with the audience by trying to tell jokes and with it just being a minute and 30 seconds the best place to be distributed would be via the web. 3. How does your production skills develop throughout the project? Things within the script would need to change either to better the narrative with non-expository dialogue or changes in how a scene played out. 4. How did you integrate technologies- hardware, software, and online- in this project? I use an editing software to edit my project with an iPad as my hardware and looked online how others have donee theirs’. Finally, this helps solidify the effort put into the project and how creating a video project works in general. We choose these specific sounds for the context of the story and specific sounds we included was birds chirping, a door opening, walking, background chatter, and papers turning,. Also, creating foley sounds was not a hard process as we just had to find a quiet location.
1. The scene will be 1 minute and 25 seconds long
2. -wide shot of environment for 5 sec -two shot showing two subjects for 5 sec -shot reverse shot between two subjects for 10 sec -over the shoulder shot between two subjects for 10 sec -first subject hands over object to subject and there is a panning close up shot of the object for 5 sec -shot reverse shot for 25 sec -full shot with two subjects for 10 sec -medium shot for 10 sec Editing:
1. Contrast, between Zuko’s past and what he is currently doing 2. To show how being alone has affected him Mise-en-scene: 1. Often framed by himself 2. With his clothes he is trying to blend in 3. Zuko is both alone physically in the story in a desert and shows he is also alone mentally Camera: 1. Motivated camera movement by characters’ actions 2. There is no actual physical camera used but images are still shown Sound 1. Uses a multitude of different instruments from different cultures. 2. Yes, the music emphasizes the mood of the narrative by somber during scenes of sadness and goes faster in action scenes. |
